Changes to the Newsletter
Since I began writing publicly for the past few years, I’ve simultaneously reached two major inflection points:
The completion of a major writing project that I feel is worth physically printing
My medical device career has begun to compete for time spent developing my craft as a writer
The end goal is for employment to be optional so I can devote more time to mastering my craft - if that is what my future self chooses to pursue. With this inflection point in my medical device career, this goal could slip from reach because as Nassim Taleb said, “The three most harmful addictions are heroin, carbohydrates, and a monthly salary.” One step further, I raise that one of the most potent addictions is the promise of a higher salary. Being both motivated by the mastery of my craft and susceptible to addictive habits, my current path is a recipe for unfulfilled dreams if another way does not appear within reach.
In other words, I worry that the promise of the corporate carrot may encroach on my artistic goals if I do not plant my own carrots that promise a future harvest. Hence, I will be planting my own carrots by making the following changes to this newsletter:
All existing and future essays and fiction pieces will continue to be available for free subscribers
Digital access to my book The Decision Dilemma will now require a paid subscription
Access to future projects similar in size and effort to The Decision Dilemma will require a paid subscription
